Embedding professional preparation in creative courses

During the course accreditation students commented that courses did not do enough to help them develop professional and entrepreneurial skills.

As these skills are central to the Creative Industries what can courses do to improve such professional preparation?

  • Curriculum should provide a balance between the creative and the professional;
  • Motivate students to engage with business development by embedding it within creative projects, live briefs for example;
  • Encourage creative experimentation and risk taking in the context of real world working practices;
  • Encourage and facilitate networking with a wide range of industry professionals, from both the creative and business sides of creative industries;
  • Bring in recent graduates who are working in the creative industries to speak with current students about their professional practice.
