Have you got the makings of a Super Producer? DV Talent’s pioneering ‘Producer Plus’ training programme is back!
This Scheme is designed to develop the next generation of senior production talent in Wales for producing network and other series.
This unique course involves a week of practical training, workshops and masterclasses followed by three weekend sessions (one in London) and one-on-one mentoring.
It will be taught by some of the most influential programme-makers and execs of recent years - including Robert Thirkell, Linda Clifford, Vicky Hamburger and Patrick Uden – with access to key commissioners and execs, it is designed to give the crucial creative, editorial and managerial skills needed to produce network series with confidence.

International Markets 2014
International Markets 2014 will provide an opportunity for Welsh production companies to learn directly from experts in the international media industry.
A two-day residential Bootcamp will take place at the exclusive Portmeirion venue in North Wales on 20 and 21 November with sessions delivered by media experts from around the world. Graham Spencer, who has held senior roles at Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures and BBC Worldwide, will chair and confirmed guest speakers include Graham Smith and Mark Robson (Grand Scheme Media), Jan Salling (Nordic World), Henrik Biskjaer (Nice Group), Jonathan Coad (Lewis Silkin), plus many more to be confirmed.
Delegates gain access to an industry mentor, who will help them to shape and sell projects into international markets. They will also be able to attend a refresher course early in 2015, and on-the-ground support at MIPTV 2015.

Fees include attendance at the Bootcamp (including 2 x nights accommodation at Portmeirion), the refresher course, ongoing mentoring and support at MIPTV 2015. The standard rate is £750 ex VAT. Bookings made before 31/07/14 will be at the Early Bird rate of £600 ex VAT. funding for training in Wales is available and could cover 80% of the cost.
Preditor Plus - shoot and edit training
The 'Preditor' programme is an intensive five-day training course to give producers, directors, assistant producers and others the practical skills to shoot and edit their own broadcast quality video.
The course will cover:
- How to film with confidence on the Canon XF305, the workhorse camera of the TV industry
- How to set up to film with full manual control
- Training on the camera's technical strengths (and weaknesses), record broadcast quality sound, and how to handle tapeless workflow
- Key directing skills including framing, shot composition, building sequences, and shooting for the edit, preparing you to film material for broadcast
- Editing on FCP7 or Avid Media Composer 6, depending on the editing software needed by you
- The craft of storytelling - how to cut shots together, build sequences and tell a story, for broadcast, the web, film or corporate
- An invitation to a series of masterclasses delivered by some of the most influential filmmakers of recent years
Various dates between July 2013 and early 2014.
The training will be offered in a variety of locations across Wales including
Swansea, Bangor, and Cardiff.
Robert Thirkell - arguably the world's leading story consultant for television and factual features. His credits include multiple BAFTA-winning series (Troubleshooter, Back to the Floor, Blood on the Carpet, Jamie's School Dinners) as well as acclaimed one-offs including The Boy Whose Skin Fell Off which won the International Emmy for best documentary. He was named the UK's number one TV producer by Broadcast magazine.
Ollie Huddleston - acclaimed documentary editor and long-time collaborator with Kim Longinotto. Credits include Salma, In the Shadow of the Sun, Mandelson: the real PM; and Hold Me Tight, Let Me Go.
Guy Bensley - leading drama and feature film editor whose credits include Trial and Retribution, Spooks, Johnny English Reborn, Blackadder Back and Forth, and Great Expectations.
