Return to Work for TV Freelancers with Media Parents
Flexible working champion Media Parents is providing FREE Return to Work Training for eight production freelancers in High End TV Drama and one from Children’s TV, from early October 2017. The first course will run in Bristol and London and there will be two further courses.
Script Editing for TV with Script Advice
Learn the skills necessary to get into the TV industry as a Script Editor and how to gain experience and deepen your contribution to the production of long running drama. This course from Script Advice breaks down the elements of a professional, creative and commercial television pilot, illustrating how to handle the components in order to benefit a script editor's own work and those of professional writers in the field.
It will be running in London over the weekends of 4/5 & 11/12 November 2017. Successful applicants will work with writers at the top of their game and meet industry executives in the field of drama development and production on a course run by Yvonne Grace, who has over 25 years experience in script editing.
Stepping Up Programme with Sgil Cymru
Sgil Cymru are partnering with Wales Screen to deliver a new pilot scheme for a coordinated 'Stepping Up’ programme designed to address skills gaps and shortages across craft, production and technical grades and on behalf of a number of HETV drama productions in Wales.
Stepping Up Programme with Northern Ireland Screen
This programme from Northern Ireland Screen is aimed at crew with at least two years experience in their current role and who have been identified as ready to move up to the next grade on productions.
Line Producer Training with TRC Media
In September 2017, TRC Media will be launching a new training programme for Line Producers in High End TV Drama.
The programme will offer participants training in three parts:
- An intensive residential week of unrivalled training delivered by industry experts, which will take place in Glasgow from 4-8 December 2017
- A mentoring or shadowing opportunity on a film or television drama production
- A two-day follow-up programme in March 2018 to address any additional needs as identified by placements/mentoring
The programme will be open to Production Managers, 1st AD’s and Production Accountants with a minimum of three years’ experience in drama or feature film production, based in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and Yorkshire. Up to 8 places will be available on the course.

The TCN Incubator with Triforce Creative Network
Over 12 months, participants in this Triforce Creative Network Writers Incubator will engage in a hands-on writer’s initiative that will hone their talents and develop their professional practice. This exciting initiative aims to change the usual routes of access and mitigate the concept of ‘risk’ that is so prevalent in our industry when engaging with new talent.
Advanced Writing for Drama with MediaXchange
The Advanced Writing for Television Drama Programme from MediaXchange is designed to build the professional writing skills and collaborative principles necessary for writers to succeed at the highest level in the competitive genre of primetime TV drama.

Continuing Drama Director’s Scheme with BBC Writersroom
This scheme run by BBC Writersroom selects drama directors and places them on one of four BBC Studios continuing drama shows (Holby, Casualty, River City and Doctors).
High-End Drama Directors Career Development Programme with Directors UK
This is an expanded career development initiative from Directors UK to help progress and diversify the directing talent in High End TV drama.
Shadow Writers Scheme with Big Light Productions
This scheme from Big Light Productions enables intermediate TV writers the chance to gain more experience in writing for long-running TV series and to build collaboration skills with other writers.
