High End TV Trainee Finder

New Look, New Talent

Creative Skillset's High End TV Trainee Finder is an entry-level scheme which places trainees on UK TV drama productions such as 'Gunpowder', 'Doctor Foster', 'Trust Me', 'Outlander', 'Game of Thrones', 'Poldark', 'Peaky Blinders', 'Victoria' and many more.

“Since finishing as an assistant editor on Trainee Finder, I’ve worked on Broadchurch, Humans and Death in Paradise. It’s been amazing and I’ve learnt so much and being on Trainee Finder made me realise that editing is the only thing I want to do. I’d urge anyone thinking about applying to be a trainee to take the leap.”         Naomi Smallwood, Trainee Finder alumnus

Our 2017/18 programme is up and running until 31 March 2018 with 75 trainees available to be placed onto productions paying the High End TV Levy, across seven priority grades:

  • Art Department (including Props)
  • Camera
  • Costume
  • Editing / Data Management
  • Hair and Make up
  • Locations
  • Sound

Since it's re-launch in July 2017, HETV Trainee Finder has seen many positive changes introduced in response to industry feedback; the introduction of dedicated pastoral care support for each trainee, the provision of short courses on finance for freelancers, branding and networking, health and safety as well as an introduction to a network of supporters offering advice and guidance. All these changes are designed to give every trainee the best chance of success to kick start their career.

Our priority is to ensure we are delivering the best opportunities for new entrants to access the industry and therefore, as of 1 November 2017, productions will be able to access up to three trainees for up to 16 weeks with the High End TV Levy contributing up to 50% of a maximum £450 weekly training allowance.

I want to become a Trainee Finder trainee

Currently closed for applications.

At present we are not accepting further applications onto the 2017/18 scheme for trainees. We expect to start our application process again in December 2017.  To make sure you don’t miss out on this opportunity follow @SkillsetTV on Twitter and sign up for our newsletter.

Acceptance onto the Creative Skillset High End Trainee Finder scheme, will result in you becoming part of an industry recognised group of trainees, receiving exclusive access to training placements on some of the most exciting dramas being shot in the UK.

On an HETV production, you will learn and develop your craft through on the job training, make important contacts for your network and receive additional skills training such as Finance for Freelancers, Branding and Networking skills, Health and Safety and Career Planning. We’ll also ask you to join our HETV Trainee Finder Swarm on Hiive and our Facebook group and let you know when interesting events, masterclasses and other opportunities come up that we think you’ll benefit from.

Our team are always on hand to help you and, working with levy-paying TV drama productions, will put you forward for any placements that last between 4 and 36 weeks that come in and that you express interest in. It is the decision of the production which trainees are selected.

Please note that once accepted on to Trainee Finder, placements are not guaranteed. We always urge trainees that they remain proactive and continue to find their own employment, and not rely solely on the scheme.

While you are on an active placement you will receive a training allowance.

At the end of your 36 weeks or end of the scheme we will prepare you for working as a freelancer in your chosen department and keep in touch over the following two years with you to track your progress.
