Developed in close collaboration with senior industry leaders from the worlds of advertising, publishing, film and television, including producer and educator David Puttnam, the two-year programme is due to start in October 2016 and will be delivered online, with three weeks residential face-to-face tuition at Ashridge Business School, plus an additional week overseas.

The Executive MBA has been created specifically for professionals already working in creative businesses or looking to make a transition into the sector, who wish to gain the strategic skills, knowledge and vision required to respond to changing global and digital markets.

Successful candidates will learn how to lead and inspire innovation, and how to build a culture of creative excellence whilst balancing the demands of commercial enterprise.

Research from Creative Skillset in 2015 concluded that many senior professionals lack management and strategic skills needed to shape and lead businesses in the creative industries; many are driven by short-term goals which hamper long-term strategic planning and business growth.

Students will learn a range of skills through the six programme modules:

  • Creating Strategy
  • Effective Leadership
  • Business Finance
  • Achieving Scale and Marketing

The Executive MBA will also address the ‘Five tensions of creative leadership’:

  • Commercial constraints vs. creative freedom
  • Fear of failure vs. appetite for risk
  • Competition vs. collaboration
  • Automation vs. craft skills
  • Long term vs. short term

The course will additionally feature a series of talks by leading creative industry managers, practitioners and commentators to provide students with further insight into leading in the creative sector. Students will further benefit from working with and networking amongst their peers, allowing them to gain transferable skills from a range of creative sectors.
