Creative Skillset at BFI London Film Festival 2018

The industry programme of the 62nd British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival has been unveiled. The festival, celebrated between 10 and 21 October, brings together industry professionals from across the world and features a diverse selection of 225 feature films, including many UK films which have contributed to the Film Skills Investment Fund (SIF).

Discussing the theme of the industry event, Managing Director of the 2018 BFI London Film Festival Anne-Marie Flynn says: “This year in particular we are confronting transformational change, both across our industry and beyond, and we’re proud to present a programme that aims to help us all not only to respond to change, but also drive forward progressive change in the future."

Creative Skillset will participate in elements of the programme that are open to industry delegates:

  • Future Film Skills – Delivering a skilled workforce for UK screen
Creative Skillset CEO Seetha Kumar and Creative Skillset Head of Film Gareth Ellis-Unwin will be part of a panel discussing what the BFI Future Film Skills plan means for the industry and how the plan is being put into action. (11:30-12:30, Monday 15 October, Picturehouse Central)
  • The Film Skills Investment Fund and how it works: A Peterloo case study
Head of Film for Creative Skillset Gareth Unwin-Ellis and Film Trainee Finder Lead Tom Holmes will explain how film industry professionals can benefit from paying the SIF. They will be accompanied by Peterloo producer Georgina Lowe and trainees who were carefully selected to participate in Creative Skillset’s Trainee Finder programme and subsequently placed on productions that have paid into the fund. (13:00-14:30, Monday 15 October, Picturehouse Central)

Creative Skillset is also supporting the Film London New Talent Strand, which runs as part of the Production Finance Market. New Talent offers training and support to new and emerging filmmakers with existing projects budgeted at €1m and under, before giving them an opportunity to connect with potential investors.
