Apprenticeships – handy guide

There are over 1,500 Apprenticeships in job roles across more than 170 industries. Apprenticeships have a positive impact on businesses and the wider economy – and they’re a great way to start or develop a career.

Follow the links below to find out more about creative industry Apprenticeships – whether you want to be an Apprentice or hire an Apprentice.

Want to do an Apprenticeship?

Getting into the creative industries can be challenging and competitive – but, if you're keen to gain on-the-job experience, an Apprenticeship can be a great way to get in or get on. You can develop your skills, experience and contacts – learning while you're earning.

Creative industry Apprenticeships include the areas of broadcast production and broadcast engineering, animation and VFX, and costume, hair and make-up. Find out more here.

Want to hire an Apprentice?

Hiring an apprentice benefits your organisation in various ways, including helping to:

  • Recruit and retain people from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Tailor skills development to meet your organisation’s needs
  • Invest in your skills-base.

After completing their Apprenticeship 90% of Apprentices stay in employment, 71% with the same employer (source: National Apprenticeship Week). Find out more here.

Clear about the new Apprenticeship Levy?

From April 2017, UK employers with a paybill of at least £3 million are required to pay into the Apprenticeship Levy – set up by the Government to fund Apprenticeship training. Find out more about who pays the Levy, how to pay and how to use the new digital training vouchers here.
