Role context

Over the last two years, new leadership at Creative Skillset has reshaped the organisation and refocused our strategy on the screen industries, clarifying our purpose and value. Our mission is to lead on building skills and talent, creating a properly inclusive workforce to power sustainable growth for the UK’s screen industries.

 Our Board and Advisory Councils comprise committed senior industry leaders from across the screen sector – film, television, visual effects, animation and games – representing large and small organisations across the UK.

As part of ongoing business the company is creating screen industry careers pages on its website to provide definitive information about careers in the screen industries. The information will be for young people, teachers, careers advisors and parents. The site will launch in October 2018 with job descriptions of roles, downloadable resources and short films.  The site will also offer links to the sites of trusted partners who provide careers advice in the creative industries. Additional content will be developed and curated over a six to twelve month period. 

Overall purpose of role

This role will review and edit existing content, write new content and curate and develop the careers section of the new site. The role will report to Head of Careers, but work in close partnership with the Product \ Owner Creative Skillset Digital Services and Director of Communications and Marketing.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the online careers resource for Creative Skillset
  • Plan and deliver a resource that is comprehensive, clear, accurate, well organised, simple and easy to navigate and understand for: students, teachers, parents, careers advisors, employers and those working in the industry
  • To review, edit and update existing content in consultation with the careers team, film team, industry practitioners and Director of Communications and Marketing
  • Identify content that is missing and create or commission content to present a complete picture of the screen careers landscape
  • Source images to illustrate job role descriptions and other career materials
  • Review existing video content and re-edit where necessary/possible with new branding
  • Research, write and upload new material
  • Write and commission fact sheets, photographs, infographics, short films  and other material
  • Work with trusted partners such as Into Film and develop content with them
  • Work with the Head of Careers and develop relationships with trusted partners providing careers information and link out to these sites
  • Work with the Head of Film and the Head of Careers to ensure that the online provision complements and amplifies the programme of careers events including roadshows, bootcamps and talks.

 Knowledge and experience 

  • Experience of writing and curating digital content for an education or company website
  • Experience of writing fact sheets or educational material
  • Experience of working with designers
  • Experience of working with partners and managing relationships
  • Experience of communicating with different audiences
  • Knowledge of the TV and film industries
  • Some knowledge of the education sector
  • Some knowledge of safeguarding and the responsibilities attached to creating content for under 18s
  • Knowledge of training design or delivery would be an advantage
  • Strong understanding of SEO and Google analytics

  • Ability to work with a Content Management System (Umbraco preferred)
  • Some expertise/training with Adobe creative suite or similar digital imaging software.
  • Advanced IT literacy.
