Creative Skillset teamed up with Broadcast, Screen Daily and Film London to tackle diversity in UK film and TV.

The Diversify Conference was a free, one day event held on 13 November and chaired by Baroness Oona King, Channel 4 diversity executive.

This year's Creative Skillset Employment Census showed some worrying trends in the creative media workforce.

For example:

  • Black, Asian and minority ethnic representation has fallen to 5.4%
  • Women still account for only 36% of the workforce
  • The proportion of the workforce based in London has risen to 54%

Diversify was a chance for professionals and policy makers to come together, discuss these issues and decide how best to combat them.

Sessions focused on practical ways of supporting diversity in film and TV both in front of and behind the camera with speakers including actors Lenny Henry and Kwame Kwei Armah, director of BBC TV Danny Cohen, director Gurinder Chadha and our own Deputy CEO, Kate O'Connor.
